Limoges boxes are produced throughout the Limoges region in central France. There are a few well-known factories still in existence in Limoges.  But mainly, Limoges boxes are produced by various artisans in small workshops.  The original method is preserved as when the production of Limoges porcelain first began in that region in the early 1700s.

Although there are many artists producing Limoges boxes in the Limousine region, the quality of their work varies considerably.  Some workshops hire students as painters which reduces the quality of their products.
